On further investigation, it appears that Charles Lindbergh used a pocketwatch on his famous flight in the Spirit of St. Louis. Really, I should have predicted this. Duh.

Well, Lindbergh's flight itself was timed by a Longines watch and after his flight he designed a pilots watch for Longines the "Hour Angle" which is still in production today.
